The Royal Palace and Temple

Another full on day in Bangkok, the boys have gone down for a massage (again) and I'm having some quiet time blogging.......
Breakfast was sensational again  today the chef has my poached eggs down pat now, but I'm thinking that the little dumpling are my new favourite's they are fantastic, I could have eaten them all.....well I did knock over a few of them.....

We headed out to The Royal Palace with about a million of our nearest and dearest friends, that was pretty special....at the Temple you must have covered legs and shoulders and if you don't you can't go inside, they do however  let you borrow clothes.....It does look funny groups of guys all with their elephant pants on......It cost us $500baht each to go in around $16 AUD.....There are scammers everywhere some telling you the Palace is closed today, some saying that it doesn't open until later in the afternoon & some selling clothes outside the same as you can borrow for free inside.....We also found it hard to get a metered taxi back to the hotel a lot of them will take you at a cheaper rate but they have one stop along the way at their cousins shop of course.....

We also spent time in one of the markets last night but didn't know that it was in a seedier part of town, Ethan thought it was so funny that there were "Lady Boys" everywhere and some of the stall's were not so family friendly with what they were selling....we also found by accident a Middle Eastern part of town that had the most amazing smells, they were burning bark in little burners and the smell was fantastic.....in beautiful bottles they had lots of different oils like Amber that had a musky woody smell....there were woman everywhere in burqa's and the restaurants all had the smoking pipes.......
We are off to have dinner at the restaurant downstairs tonight and then staying close to the hotel as I am sure it will be really hard to get a taxi there are people everywhere....I also found out today that I have been saying hello in Thai and telling everyone that I am a "Lady Boy" as you can imagine Ethan thinks it is hilarious.....have changed what I say now and am back to being a lady.....
Happy New Year back home in Australia you will see it long before us.....hope it's a great year for you all....
The guards at the front gate with their gun's...

Part of the wall of the Temple.

The doors to The Kings Palace..

The Temple was made up of lots  of different Temples the main one had The Emerald Budha in it....

The Emerald Budha lived in here, you had to take your shoes off to go in and there was no photo's allowed inside...

See the cat sleeping on the bottom...

Power lines they are everywhere and there are so many of them...

How cool are these temporary fences....very stylish....this part of town is where the protests are, well we think it is...these fences were everywhere and they also had sandbag walls....we couldn't see the protesters from the taxi....

A train going through as we awited .....

Not sure what these are some type of egg I think....

Dumplings for breakfast.....

The omlette station....

The tiny mandarins that one is sitting on a teaspoon.

More guns where the guards were....

There are tiny fish in all the little stone gardens.....
These doors were just beautiful.....
We thought that this was a painting but it is a mosaic ......

One of the Palace guards they just stare straight ahead and do not smile....

Some food pic's and the all important shoe pic's...

Another great day and again we are about to head out to the markets, we have not stopped since we got here......took a taxi to the shopping centre to get Greg a pair of shoes, ended up getting him some and Ethan a new pair of mainly white joggers for school....these were not really that cheap and could probably have got them at a better price in Sydney but because of really sore feet on Greg's part they were really needed.....Had some lunch in the biggest food court you have ever seen with the most amazing variety of foods.....not street market but yes, we all ate it and if you know how I feel about street food you will know that is a huge step for me.....
Came back to the hotel and the boys wanted massages again so we headed down to the massage place, the boys both had foot massages, I had a anti-stress massage (much needed) and Greg had a oil massage they were all for a hour and the total cost was $900 Baht.....about $32 AUD
While we were waiting for Dan to finish his massage we walked to the shopping centre and found exactly what I had been looking for Fitflops I just love these shoes and they are so expensive at home, I brought 5 pairs and the total cost of the 5 were $184AUD......one pair at home is around $179 and the copy pairs here are $18 AUD....they are not the most recent styles but I don't care they look fabulous....Grandma if you are reading this the back one is yours do you want any more?
The cutest button shoes all sewn on by hand....

The taxi this morning, they all have seatbelts it's just most of them have no clip and nothing to clip it into...

Don't feed the horse that lives in the foyer...

Out the front of the shopping centre...

Umm, yes please, send this one home for Grandpa....

The nicest fruit shop I have seen....

These guys were making rock candy and when they had finished the purple in the middle was the shape of grapes.

Not sure what the dog is but I thought it would look good in my garden..

Gelato presented so perfectly, how could you say no.

Different types of milk...

Some sort of chip things...

Yes, that's right take a break at lunchtime....

Waiting to be cooked....

Cuttlefish

Chicken and pork satay, Dan & I shared 10 of these.....

Noodles of course....

One for the girls, you know who you are.....

Street market on the way back to the hotel....

These were the smallest prawns I have ever seen they were still jumping when I took this photo, not sure how they cooked them no one was buying them when we were there...

The boys had 3 lots of these eggy things they were empty in the middle & very tasty...

Ahhh, shoes beautiful shoes....Grandma take a look at the back ones...

A new dress to wear to The Palace tomorrow with my new shoes....
